Based on similar schemes previously introduced in The Netherlands, the new surface was funded entirely by contributions made by developers. To see photos of the installation, click here, for videos click here and here. See also Oxford Times articles, 23 July 2012 and 30 May 2013. |
Broken small Thames Water manhole cover by 35 JSL fixed
The problem was reported by two people on FixMyStreet. Oxfordshire County Council requested further information, which was not sent to them until after office hours on Friday, 31 August, 2018. They responded swiftly on the Monday, indicating they were investigating and on the Tuesday reported: "We have contacted the utility company responsible [Thames Water] and asked them to return and repair the damage". Thames Water also acted swiftly and a new manhole cover had been installed by Wednesday, 5 September. Many thanks to both for the swift response.

Road surface problems and repairs
December 2017 - erosion of road surface around manhole by No. 69 JSL
A much larger patch had been applied across all the damaged surface (photo above, right) but water was still leaking from the manhole cover after rain and consequently erosion of the road surface was continuing - see further information on Roadway Rainwater Drainage page.
Nov 2017: markings were noticed indicating plans for repair - photo above, centre
By early 2017 a tarmac patch had been applied to the hole beside the manhole cover by 69A but the road surface at the edge had not been repaired (photos above, left and centre - click here for a larger photo)

22 Nov 2016: Water was gushing from this manhole by 69 Jack Straw's Lane following heavy rain. The leakage, which has been reported several times to Thames Water over the years, had eroded the road surface. Photos
5 April 2016
The 2 potholes, one next to the other,
by No. 8 JSL were again reported to
Oxford City Council.
They were filled in a week later.
23 January 2016 A Corehard van (with circular blue/white arrow road sign beside it) was seen parked near the letterbox at the junction of the main part of JSL and JSL North around midday on Saturday. The driver was on the phone, so no info about what this related to - possibly a check on the repair of the road road surface following a gas leak repair in November 2015.
July 2015 The lower section of JSL (up to Doris Field Close) was 'surface dressed'. A more than usual amount of loose chippings remained on the roadway afterwards and were still collecting at the roadside in March 2016.
10 April 2015 Further repair was necessary following erosion again of the patch to the Imprint surface by No. 24 (photo below, taken 18 Oct 2014).
23 to 25 Feb 2015
Work on resurfacing the south side of the lower section of Jack Straw's Lane, which had several potholes, was completed within those 3 days. The area in the mid-section of the Lane was also repaired but deteriorated again. A further repair was in progress on 10 April 2015.
The patch to the Imprint surface by No. 24, carried out in October 2014, which had suffered erosion - see photo below taken on 10 January 2015 - was repaired at the same time.
